WAYNESBORO VA: (Rocktown Now) – The City of Waynesboro in partnership with the Virginia Department of Transportation has officially opened the Waynesboro Southern Corridor during a ribbon-cutting ceremony today.
According to V-DOT, the two-lane 1.6-mile roadway was established to improve access and reduce congestion.
Waynesboro Economic Development and Tourism Director Greg Hitchin said that although the groundbreaking was over a year ago, the project started 17 years ago with a vision.
“A vision to improve access and traffic flow to the town center. A vision to provide optional east-west transportation without using Interstate 64. And a vision to create access to new industrial space for the future of the city.”
The South Corridor is parallel to Interstate 64 between exit 94-Rosser Avenue and exit 96-South Delphine Avenue.
