Shenandoah Valley Weather: Air Quality Alert in affect

Photo: clipart.com

HARRISONBURG VA: (Rocktown Now) – A denser plume of smoke from the wildfires burning in Canada will reduce visibility today and may lead to unhealthy air quality in parts of the Shenandoah Valley. Hot and humid conditions will continue with a chance for thunderstorms. It’s looking like we may see multiple rounds of thunderstorms on Saturday, which could lead to heavy downpours and flash flooding issues. The chance for thunderstorms will continue, along with humid weather, into Monday. High pressure will arrive on Tuesday and we should see some sunshine and lower humidity as we head toward the middle of next week.

…AIR QUALITY ALERT IS IN EFFECT FOR TODAY

The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality has issued a
Code PURPLE Air Quality Alert Friday for
Northwestern and Central Virginia.

A Code Purple Air Quality Alert means that air pollution
concentrations within the region are very unhealthy for the
general population. The risk of health effects is increased
for everyone. The effects of air pollution can be minimized by
avoiding strenuous activity or exercise outdoors.
