WOODSTOCK VA: (Rocktown Now) – Kyle Gutshaw has secured a seat on the Shenandoah County Board of Supervisors, defeating challenger Murdoch Snar in Tuesday’s election. Gutshaw, who previously served on the Shenandoah County School Board, says his experience in public office and managing the school division’s complex budget will help him transition smoothly into his new role.
In an interview with WSVA’s Mario Restrosi, Gutshaw emphasized two priorities for his tenure: strengthening the relationship between the Board of Supervisors and the School Board, and driving economic development to reduce the county’s reliance on individual taxpayers. “We need to diversify revenue and bring industry back to Shenandoah County,” Gutshaw said, noting that many residents currently commute outside the county for work.
Gutshaw plans to take an aggressive approach to attracting businesses, highlighting Shenandoah County’s rural advantages and competitive tax rates. He acknowledged that economic development will be a long-term effort but sees it as essential to easing financial burdens on residents.
Reflecting on his campaign, Gutshaw said economic concerns were a recurring theme among voters. “People want opportunities to live and work here,” he explained. “We need to make Shenandoah County a great place to live.”
Gutshaw expressed gratitude for the support he received and looks forward to building new relationships as he begins his term. “There’s a lot of work ahead, but I’m ready for it,” he said.
