JMU’s Louisell named Sun Belt Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week

NEW ORLEANS (JMU Athletics) – James Madison junior outside hitter Kennedy Louisell was named the Sun Belt Conference Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday morning.

Louisell, the outside hitter from Grand Rapids, Mich., led the Sun Belt in kills (41), kills per set (5.13), points (45.5), and points per set (5.69) this past weekend as the Dukes split a pair of road matches at App State.

Against the Mountaineers on Sept. 26, Louisell had 22 kills, nine digs, and three blocks while hitting at a .375 clip (22-4-48). On Sunday, Sept. 27, she recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 19 kills and 10 digs to go along with a career-high-tying four blocks.

Through 14 matches of the season, Louisell leads the nation in total kills (273) and is fourth in kills per set (5.15). She has six matches with 20-plus kills and is hitting .346, which leads JMU and is eighth in the Sun Belt.

Louisell and James Madison return to the court this weekend with a pair of matches against Georgia State on Oct. 3-4.
