CLEARWATER, Fla. (JMU Athletics) – James Madison softball fell to No. 1 Texas Tech, 5-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Eddie C. Moore Complex as part of the Shriners Children’s Invitational.
The Dukes moved to 2–3 on the season, while the nation’s top-ranked team improved to 11-0.
Four Dukes registered hits, coming from the bats of graduate Kylee Gleason, redshirt junior Bella Henzler, junior PK Arredondo and sophomore Emily LeGrand.
How It Happened
First Inning:
• Texas Tech scored first with an unearned run, using a fielding error to plate it. The Red Raiders would’ve added a second run on the play, but the relay from freshman Emma Jo Evans to sophomore Emily LeGrand to junior PK Arredondo cut the runner down at the plate.
Fifth Inning:
• The Red Raiders extended their lead to three, scoring runs on a fielder’s choice and a sacrifice fly.
Sixth Inning:
• Texas Tech added two more runs on a Mia Williams single, pushing its lead to 5-0.
Game Notes
• Payton List (0–2) worked five innings in the circle, allowing three runs (two earned) and striking out three.
• Taylor Johnson added one inning in relief and a season-high two strike outs.
• As a pitching staff, the Dukes recorded five strikeouts and held the Red Raiders to seven hits. It is Texas Tech’s second-highest amount of strikeouts this season and the third-least amount of hits.
• JMU became the second team this season, alongside Florida State, to hold Texas Tech to one run or fewer through the first three innings of a game.
