JMU Softball adds former Virginia RHP Ava Hodges

HARRISONBURG, Va. (JMU Athletics) – The James Madison softball program announced the addition of transfer pitcher Ava Hodges on Tuesday, June 30.

Hodges will have two years of eligibility after spending two seasons at Virginia. The right-handed pitcher has 25 career appearances – including 11 starts.

Virginia (2026):
• Made eight appearances as a sophomore, making three starts
• Earned the win against Bucknell (3/1), tying a season-high 4.0 innings pitched
• Finished with an ERA of 6.53 in 15.0 innings of work
• Worked 4.0 innings against No. 9 Arkansas in season opener

Virginia (2025):
• Appeared in 17 games, making eight starts
• In 39.0 innings, worked a 2.51 ERA while striking out 19 batters
• Made first collegiate start at South Carolina (2/6)
• Struck out a season-high four batters against Penn (2/23), working 5.0 innings and picking up first win
• Finished with a 3-4 record

High School:
• Ranked No. 38 overall in the Extra Elite Rankings per Extra Innings Softball
• 4x All-State selection at North Raleigh Christian Academy
• 3x Most Valuable Player (2021-23)
• 2x Conference Player of the Year (2021, 2023)
• No. 26 ranked pitcher by Extra Inning Softball
