James Madison Softball blanks Marshall, 5-0, to win series

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (JMU Athletics) – Payton List tossed a complete-game shutout as James Madison softball secured a series win over first-place Marshall, 5-0, on Saturday afternoon at Dot Hicks Field.

JMU (27-23, 13-11 Sun Belt) finished with five runs on 10 hits and zero errors, while Marshall (37-16, 17-7 Sun Belt) finished with zero runs on just two hits.

The series loss for Marshall was its first at home in conference play during the 2026 season. The Dukes also handed the Thundering Herd their second and third losses of the season at home, as Marshall entered the weekend 15-1 at home.

List pitched her third complete game of the season, finishing with five strikeouts and allowing just two hits.
Madison Edwards and Cali Legzdin each lifted home runs to and combined for three RBI to lead the Dukes at the plate. Kylee Gleason finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Bella Henzler also collected a pair of hits while also scoring a run.

How It Happened:
• In the second inning, Legzdin launched a solo home run to left center to give JMU an early 1-0 advantage.
• JMU added to its lead in the third as Kylee Gleason delivered an RBI single up the middle to plate Henzler, before a wild pitch later in the inning allowed Gleason to score and push the advantage to 3-0.
• The Dukes put the game away in the seventh when Madison Edwards blasted a two-run home run to left field, extending the lead to 5-0.
• List shut the door on Marshall in the seventh, striking out Haleigh Adkins to end the game and give the Dukes the series win.

Up Next:
The Dukes will play in a quarterfinal game on Thursday, May 7 as part of the Sun Belt Conference Softball Championship in Lafayette, La. JMU is the No. 6 seed and they’ll play No. 3 seed Texas State at 11 AM ET and it’ll air on the JMU Radio Network.
