HARRISONBURG, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – A Harrisonburg man who was arrested for trespassing at Broadway High School earlier this year was found guilty on Thursday in Harrisonburg-Rockingham General District Court.
David Rudmin, 42, will not serve any jail time, but was ordered to pay a $250 fine for the misdemeanor offense.
He was arrested on school grounds on January 31 after refusing to leave, despite being asked multiple times by Broadway High School Principal Dan Sanders and a school resource officer.
Rudmin showed up at the school displaying anti-LGBTQ+ signs, which he argued was a form of religious expression, in response to a recent student protest at the school. A week prior, students walked out in protest of Rockingham County Public Schools’ decision to temporarily pull several dozen books from school library shelves as the county School Board discussed a new supplementary materials policy.
The school board adopted that policy in a 4-1 vote during their meeting at Turner Ashby School on April 22.
