HARRISONBURG, Va. (JMU Athletics) – James Madison men’s soccer fell to Rutgers on Friday night, 4-1, to conclude its season-opening homestand at Sentara Park.
The Dukes dropped to 0-3, while the Scarlet Knights improved to 2-0-1.
Sophomore Diego Ossa netted his first goal as a Duke to lead the offense. Graduate Joshua Moya ended his 76:22 minutes of play with three saves.
How It Happened
• JMU had an opportunity in the eight minute, with sophomore Diego Ossa being taken down inside the penalty box. However, after a review, there was no foul called and play was resumed.
• Moments later in the 10th minute, Rutgers took advantage of a redirected throw in, as Joschi Schelb gave it a 1-0 lead.
• The Dukes put their first shot on goal in the 33rd minute, as freshman Luis Fuentes rifled in a shot that was deflected out by the Rutgers goalkeeper.
• Rutgers doubled its lead, as a free kick into the 18-yard box was headed in for a 2-0 advantage.
• JMU came out into the second half with aggressive, netting a goal in the a minute and 20 seconds into the half. Junior Cameron Arnold sent a free kick into the box that Ossa was able to poke into goal.
• The Scarlet Knights regained their two-goal lead, finding the back of the net in the 68th minute.
• A goal from Devon Stopek in the 71st minute increased Rutgers’ lead to 4-1.
