Dukes Baseball drops series opener at Old Dominion, 5-1

NORFOLK, Va. (JMU Athletics) – James Madison fell, 5-1, to Old Dominion to open its final Sun Belt Conference series of the regular season on Thursday night at Ellmer Family Baseball Complex.

The Dukes dropped their record to 20-31 (10-18 Sun Belt) and have fell in their last five games, while the Monarchs improved to 28-24 (14-14 Sun Belt).

Redshirt sophomore Clay Thompson and sophomore Reece Moody each went 2-for-4 to lead the Dukes at the plate, with Thompson delivering an RBI and Moody recording a run scored.

How It Happened
First Inning
ODU loaded the bases with no outs on three consecutive singles, scoring a pair of runs on back-to-back groundouts.

Second Inning
The Monarchs loaded the bases again with no outs, this time scoring a run on a double play to make the score 3-0.

Fourth Inning
JMU got on the board with a Thompson single, knocking in Moody from second after he singled and stole second.

A pair of runs in the home half of the inning for ODU pushed the lead to four with a 5-1 score.

Game Notes
• Reece Moody and Clay Thompson increased their respected stolen base tallies to 33 and 24, as the Dukes are up to 137 as a team this season.
• Kyle Langley’s 17-game reached base streak came to an end, the second longest of the season for a Duke behind Moody’s 18-game streak.
