Sunny skies and rising temperatures this weekend with a slight chance for thunderstorms

HARRISONBURG VA: (Rocktown Now) – Starting today and through much of next week, the weather here in the valley will be controlled mainly by a summer high-pressure system. While a few isolated afternoon and evening thunderstorms are possible today and again on Sunday due to daytime heating and lingering moisture, most of the period is expected to feature plenty of sunshine, light winds, and above-normal temperatures. Highs will climb into the upper 80s and lower 90s early next week as the high-pressure ridge strengthens over the region. By the middle of the week, a weak disturbance or frontal boundary may move closer to the Valley, bringing an increase in clouds and scattered shower and thunderstorm chances while allowing temperatures to moderate slightly. Overall, residents can expect a typical August pattern of warm, humid afternoons, mostly sunny skies, and only occasional thunderstorm activity.
