James Madison University is moving up the best colleges rankings.

The Harrisonburg school jumped eight spots to number 64 among public institutions in U-S News and World Report’s 2024 Best Colleges rankings. Overall, J-M-U moved up 27 spots to Number 124 nationally.

It is only the second year in which J-M-U was ranked among national universities.

Incidentally, U-S News and World Report defines “national universities” as offering a range of undergraduate majors, plus master’s and doctoral programs as well as emphasizing faculty research.

In other recently released rankings, J-M-U was rated 152 out of 400 colleges by the Wall Street Journal and 170 out of 500 colleges by Forbes.
