BANDON, Ore. – The James Madison men’s golf team opened its spring campaign this week, battling through the elements to take 13th on Tuesday at the Bandon Dunes Championship, hosted on the par-72, 6,676-yard Bandon Dunes Course at the famed resort of the same name.

Despite difficult wind and weather that forced a cancellation of Monday’s second round and shortened the event to 36 holes, the Dukes posted rounds of 309 and 298 on the week among 18 teams in a strong field, finishing a shot ahead of Washington State and four ahead of Drexel.

Freshman Václav Tichý led the way again in a strong first season at JMU, carding 74-76 to tie for 34th among 112 players, including four ranking inside the top 100. Sophomore Daniel Cheng was immediately behind Tichý in a tie for 40th, posting rounds of 77-74.

Junior Alexandre D’Aurelle de Paladines followed that pair in a tie for 63rd (78-76), while freshman Suneil Peruvemba (80-76) and senior Nick Schlickenrieder (86-72) finished in ties for 82nd and 89th, respectively.

Playing as an individual, freshman Owen Kose tied for 73rd with rounds of 76-79 on the week.

UP NEXT
The Dukes return to the course in less than a week, when they head to Brook Valley Country Club in Greenville, S.C. to take part in the ECU Intercollegiate on March 20-21.
