Founding Fathers fall to Herd That, 77-71, in TBT opener


The Founding Fathers (JMU Alumni Team) came up short in the opening round of The Basketball Tournament (TBT) on Sunday as they lost to Herd That (Marshall Alumni Team), 77-71, in Charleston, West Virginia.

The Fathers fell behind by as many as 10 points in the first quarter before using a 14-4 run to end the quarter and the game was tied 18-18.  The Founding Fathers then took a 32-29 lead late in the first half before Herd That ended the second quarter on a 6-0 run and they led 35-32 at halftime.

The Fathers never led in the third quarter as they trailed 49-45 after three, but they rallied for their first lead of the second half, 67-65, with 5:30 left in the fourth quarter.  The score was tied at 69 and then Herd That ended the game on an 8-2 run to earn the win.

Ron Curry led the Founding Fathers with 27 points, while Devon Moore and Cordaryl Ballard added 11 each, and Andre Nation scored 10.

This is the second straight season that the Founding Fathers have been accepted into the TBT as they are now 0-2 all-time.
