The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a former emergency services and D.A.R.E officer for allegedly sexually assaulting a child.

In a release this morning, Sheriff David W. Hill said that 64-year-old Raymond Uttaro was taken into custody after a search warrant was executed on Laurel Road in Shipman.

Uttaro is facing 27 total charges, including two counts of rape, two counts of carnal knowledge of a child between 13 and 15 years old, and three counts of forcible sodomy.

He is held without bond at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.
