FISHERSVILLE, Va – Last month, WSVA reported that skeletal remains were found at a construction site in the Fishersville area.

Those remains were sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and Augusta County Sheriff Donald Smith stated in a news release that an examination by a staff Forensic Anthropologist revealed that the remains were indeed human and that they date to the late 1800s to early 1900s.

Smith added that the remains appear to be that of a child who passed away over 100 years ago and was buried in a coffin in an unmarked grave.

Smith said that while he is saddened by the discovery, he is thankful that the remains were not connected with any criminal activity.
