WAYNESBORO, Va. — Augusta County authorities say a Waynesboro man was arrested last week for allegedly shooting and killing another man’s service dog.

In a release, Sheriff’s Lieutenant Leslie Snyder said that a 27-year-old man called 9-1-1 from Waynesboro Animal Hospital Friday morning to report that his dog had been shot. The animal died from its injuries en route to the hospital.

Snyder said deputies then went to the 200 block of Rip Rap Road to investigate further. Following the investigation, she said 67-year-old Louis Edward Davis Junior was arrested with felony cruelty to animals and reckless handling of a firearm, a misdemeanor.

Davis is held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail.
